Frederick James Carter (born January 27, 1993) is a British actor and director. He was born in Plymouth, Devon and grew up predominantly in Somerset. As his father was in the military, he spent some of his childhood moving around. His older brother is actor Tom Austen, he also has a middle brother. The three brothers went to school at Queen’s College in Taunton. After graduation, Freddy enrolled at the Oxford School of Drama, graduating in 2015.

Following his graduation, Freddy featured in the company of the Rose Theatre Kingston production of The War of the Roses, directed by Trevor Nunn. His onscreen debut was as a soldier in the 2017 DC Comic film, Wonder Woman. Shortly after, Freddy landed his first major role as a main character Peter “Pin” Hawthorne in the Netflix series Free Rein. In 2018, he starred as Alexander Flint in the stage production of Harley Granville-Barker’s Agnes Colander, and played Ellis in the horror film The Convent.

In 2019, Carter wrote and directed his first short film, No. 89. He also had a main role as Tom in the mini series 15 Days, and a recurring role as Jason Ripper in the DC Comics series Pennyworth. It would be later in the year that the news would come out that he would star as Kaz Brekker on Netflix’s series Shadow and Bone.

Shortly after Shadow and Bone was released in 2021, Freddy revealed that he would be appearing on Apple +’s series Masters of the Air. He’d also be directing his second movie, Broken Gargoyles.
